My #1 breakfast spot in New Hampshire
Polly’s Pancake House in Sugar Hill New Hampshire on Route 117 is one of the places that I always try to fit into my itinerary every autumn. With or without gluten and New Hampshire-made maple syrup are the order of the day. Not a fan of “real” maple syrup, they have the “other” stuff also.
Generally, their pancakes come in batches of 6 nice-sized pancakes but they will serve you 3 and when you are done with those, bring out the second half. They want you to have “hot” pancakes to enjoy and they may get cold as you struggle to get through all 6 in one sitting.
Don’t worry they have bacon and sausage and other breakfast-type foods if pancakes aren’t your favorite. From French toast to. Well, I’ll let you stop in and find out…
They just tore the old place down last October to build a new modern building. Their old building started out as a shed and grew from there. They have pictures up on their website and by the ones, I can see it doesn’t look all that different.
I assume when I get up there this fall I’ll have much to love about the new place. They’ve always been award winners. “The restaurant has been featured in Road Food, Every Day with Rachel Ray, Cooking with Paula Dean, the Food Network Magazine, New Hampshire Magazine, and Yankee Magazine. Polly’s also won a James Beard Award in the American Classics category in 2006″.
So stop in anytime or day because you can visit them year round and if you can’t get there, visit their online store for their homemade products… Nothing made in China!!!
If you want a nearby scenic fall foliage location, try the Beaver Pond at Kinsman Notch. You can do like I do and hit that first then after you lose the “golden” light and find yourself ready for breakfast, come back here.

OMG! I didn’t even think about New England maple syrup when planning my trip! One more thing to put one the list.
How in hell can someone forget that???
Other than visiting relatives maple syrup is a must for us to bring back to FL. Just finished off the gallon from last summer and down to a half a pint. Usually go to a farm near Woodstock and Quincy for maple syrup but will try to make it up Sugar Hill from Lk Winnipesaukee this Sept. Since we are coming mid month the further north we get the better I would think. Thanks for the tip Jeff.
