Inns – Hartman’s Herb Farm/B&B
Several years ago in mid-October, we had the pleasure of staying at Hartman’s Herb Farm and B&B. Settled on a back road in central Massachusetts near the Quabbin Reservoir is what I like to call a fairytale farm.
You would never know this is not a 150+-year-old building. Years ago, Lynn and her late husband, lost the farmhouse to a fire. When they rebuilt, they wanted it to look like it had always been there so they used repurposed and handcrafted materials. What emerged was a warm, inviting refuge.
I call this a fairytale farm because when you step out of your car, you feel like you are transported to another realm. It’s as if J.R.R. Tolkien had found this place, and it had been the inspiration for him.
The matriarch of the family, Lynn, would fit in the shire with her other business as the creator of dried floral arrangements and wreaths. She has wildflower and herb beds everywhere on the property.
You are greeted by the front door by a bunny hutch with furry little creatures inside. You might also be greeted by other furry creatures, as we were on one visit, by baby goats, sheep, or you might find baby piglets with their big momma across the street in the wooded lot.
Go for a stroll around the property, check out the greenhouses, and find delightful little spots to sit and read or listen to the birds chirping in the trees.
They also have a function room for weddings and events, and there are many photogenic locations on the property.
When we stayed, the Gold Room Suite was a fairly new addition. It was spacious and lovely. We don’t have great photos of the room because, at the time, we didn’t know we would be writing these blog posts, but I can assure you, this is a wonderful, clean room.
You will have a wonderful breakfast featuring homemade jams and jellies (also available in the gift shop), and of course, the herbs are grown on the property.
We always stop in to say hello when we are in the area, even if we don’t plan on staying the night. There is always something new to see, and Lynn and her family are such gracious hosts.
