Kearsarge Inn, North Conway
It’s not usual for us to stay at an inn in a touristy area such as North Conway New Hampshire. But Jeff had his interview with CBS Sunday morning (which you can view here) in the Conway area.

Jeff’s entourage pulled in across the street from the railroad station (Jeff’s entourage consists of the producer, video and sound men and of course Lisa). We ended up having lunch at the Stairway Cafe and were able to snag a table next to a roaring fire. The cafe was just on the corner of Seavey st and Jeff walked a short distance down but didn’t spot the Inn.
We had to get back to finding fall foliage so Jeff and his entourage continued driving. Later that afternoon we returned to North Conway to really locate our diggs for the night.
Lisa managed to snag a very good deal on a room at the Kearsarge Inn, but as always, we wondered exactly what the room would be like. Even though we were in the heart of North Conway we wondered what the amenities would be like and how close would be dinner…
We drove up to a large yellow rambling inn with a large open porch and cottages in the rear. It looked comforting on that dreary evening. There was a very tiny lobby/communal room as we walked in the front door. There were complimentary hot beverages available, but the small room made us wonder about what the accommodations would be like.
We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the room door with the old-fashioned key. The room was large, with comfy, gorgeous furniture. The bed alone was luxury in itself but added to that was a seating area with a gas fireplace. The bath was large for old inn standards with a double sink. Our room, #9 (I think), had a small balcony (the only room that has one) although we weren’t able to enjoy it on that rainy day, so we cozied up to the fireplace (gas).
We didn’t feel like venturing too far out to Main Street (it was a cold rainy day) so we ate at the restaurant next door, the Deacon Street Restaurant. It had a nice atmosphere with lots of local ephemera to decorate the place including a vintage snowmobile and motorcycle! The food was filling and tasty.
One Downside…
My only gripe is they don’t have a kitchen, so no breakfast, but we were very happy with the Kearsarge Inn and would stay there again. (Jeff notes that they do have coffee made by 7 AM near the front door so that is something) And being North Conway there are lots of options for food that
February is here and Next week I’ll continue this story with how the rest of the trip with CBS went…

Lisa and Jeff, next time you find yourself wanting a restaurant in North Conway (including breakfast places), email or message me. I can point you to several of each, as well as to a nice motel if the Inn is booked up. Also, thanks for the mentions of this Inn and the restaurant — I wasn’t familiar with either, good to know of alternative accommodations if my usual isn’t available.
Ok, Nancy, will do.
