A Covered Bridge in Plain Sight
The Blair Covered Bridge is fairly new only being around 190 years old and it crosses the Pemigewasset River near Campton, New Hampshire.
You may be going, yup, another covered bridge. But if you haven’t visited this one or the Farm to Table Restaurant in the background to the right of the bridge, then I want to point out that if you have traveled down (south on) Route 93 in Franconia Notch you missed the sign advertising this covered bridge on the Highway. Read on…
Not all roadside Markers are historical
BUT! I bet you never thought twice about this exit marker on the southbound side of Route 93 in Franconia Notch New Hampshire. (and yes it was a quick shot through the window as we were driving by…)
I’ve been driving on I-93 for 20 years and I don’t know how many times I’ve driven by this sign and didn’t give it a second thought.
I will admit that this is the only sign on a highway that I’m aware of that actually points to something that I REALLY wanted to know about. I just wish that it had said Blair Covered Bridge. The Blair Bridge is just not that interesting sounding.
Information, Directional, and Historical signs
If you have traveled anywhere in New England you know them when you see them. Maybe they are green with a silver edge or maybe they are just plain painted wood signs. The important thing is that they fill in some of the gaps in the history of the place you have just found.
This is the only major highway marker that I know of, that points out a covered bridge from the highway! So if you see exit 27 pointing to Route 3 and the Blair “Covered Bridge” near W. Campton, then you may want to take this exit. The Blair Road links Route 175 and Routes 3 and I-93 in W. Campton.
Farm to Table Restaurant (and covered Bridge)
On this day we weren’t looking for a covered bridge but Lisa had spotted an advertisement for a nearby “Farm to table restaurant” on google maps. When we got there from the other side of the Pemigewasset River we first saw the Blair covered bridge. I got out and took a few shots and proceeded to the other side where the restaurant and lunch were.
We both had soup, and I’m sorry but I started in on mine before I thought to snap a shot (onion soup for me and fresh mushroom soup for Lisa) Then we both had a Broiled chicken, blue cheese, walnut, and cranberry green salad with a light vinegarette dressing. Lisa got the cheese on the side and I was lucky and got extra cheese on mine 🙂
So I give the Covered Bridge Farm Table restaurant two thumbs up. Trip-advisor says 4 stars and $$-$$$ and I tend to agree. I didn’t see anything for a kids menu so you should ask before you sit down.
All in all, a really nice day and there were more colors to explore. But, that as they say, is another story…

Like YOU said in PLAIN sight- when you see a sign that says Bridge, or bridge road or anything like that- often it is what it is– New Englanders are pretty straight forward. Nice piece on another pretty covered bridge and good food- who can disagree with that! Thanks for all the information!
