Hero’s Welcome in North Hero Vermont
Hero’s Welcome was found along Route 2 on the Lake Champlain Islands, the island of North Hero, to be exact. Lisa was pouring over the Gazetteer looking for spots for us to explore when I pointed this place out. We looked at each other and said “Lunch?”… We give them a 5-star rating based on all the amenities they offer.
Believe me, you can’t miss it. This “General Store” is one that serves the local and especially the seasonal summer population, but is open all year round. They have a large deli menu to try out. They have everything from penny candy (which does cost a bit more than a penny) to baked goods and several tables inside to sit at.
As you can see the store is bright and well lit and actually goes back much further than this image shows. You can get lost in here seeing what is on all the shelves and in the corners. Hero’s Welcome could be put in the category of a destination general store, but it’s not quite to the level of the Vermont Country stores.
Lake Champlain is just across the street so during the summer many boaters pull up and walk in to get lunch. Here is a link to Google’s images and map.
