Unusual Things Found in New England Part 2
Cows Jump Over the Moon
It’s hard to say if its the long Vermont winter nights or the people who live in Vermont are more creative. Maybe it’s all the time on their hands during the long winters when the farm doesn’t require as much work so they get creative.
Whatever the reason, Lisa and I found many different examples this past year. Like we saw in Part 1, Sometimes it is unusual creativity born of necessity and sometimes it’s just a creative outlet. If the side of the barn is bare and needs a paint job, they say let’s “really” paint it.
Location is not so easy this time…
I know I was in the Northeast Kingdom and west of Stannard Vermont. So go and explore Stannard Mountain Road and head over to Greensboro VT and if you are lucky you will find it. This is one of the times I forgot to take my phone out to photograph something. I can say that I “think” I was on a dirt road and this road led down to the farm.
If you do find it, send me the coordinates and I’ll update this. Also, remember that this is a private farm if you do find it. I used a 105mm telephoto lens from a distance. This is not the Jenne Farm where they are used to the notoriety. Do not drive down to the barn and try to photograph this with your cell phone up close.
Cellphoneography is a thing nowadays and I shoot many of my spots with my cell phone and they come out very nice. But I don’t use it as my primary camera. I use it mostly for the GPS location ability. I can place all my cell phone images on a map and see where I found something. (Click to see a small gallery of them)
So as always be respectful of the property owners’ feelings. If you see them out there, go ahead and ask if you can photograph his/her barn. I would say at least in this case, they would be happy to know that someone liked it because they painted it facing the public road.
Here is a link to Part 1 in case you missed it. And here is Part 3. And Part 4.
