Robert Frost in Derry New Hampshire
“I shall be telling this with a sigh, Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.”
(Robert Frost)
Visiting with Robert Frost
Over the past 16 years, Lisa and I have explored various corners of New England. We were forever seeing historical signs announcing that a Robert Frost location was at the next exit. But it always seemed like we had other plans on that trip. We finally made it our goal, to visit some of the Robert Frost homes in New England.
Over the years, Lisa has created itineraries for us, These are not real “official” turn-by-turn itineraries but rather, objectives. Places that we want to visit but she leaves how we get there, up to me. Sometimes we take a more direct route and some days it takes all day to get there. Today I’m writing about Robert Frost’s home in Derry New Hampshire.
Frost Home in Derry New Hampshire
In between exits 3 (Route 111) and 4 (route 102) on Route 93 You will find one of Robert Frost’s homes that he lived in from 1900 to 1911. Just go east of 93 one 102 or 111 until you hit Route 28 and depending on the exit you took, you will head North or South to find
This home has excellent potential for fall colors and there are trails to explore and places to sit and enjoy the beautiful nature surrounding his home. We got there on an overcast day and the guided tours only run during the summer. But you can park in the parking lot and wander the property as we did.
The colors were lovely and across from this old maple were some apple trees. I wonder if they had been there for the past 100 years. I think there was a larger orchard in past years but today there are only a few remaining trees.
Frost Homes as a Destination
You may be wondering why I’m fixating on Robert Frost so much. Well, many of you will come to me and tell me “it’s raining or cloudy and I can’t get good pictures”. Well, I can’t control the weather but as you can see here, It was a cloudy day and I still made good images and good memories.
But the most important takeaway is that there are many Frost homes in New England. You don’t need mountain-top views to enjoy a place like this. You are exploring the history of the place and if it’s cloudy and not a great foliage day, you can still enjoy learning about the place.
If you are looking for another Frost abode, then try The Robert Frost summer cabin – Homer Noble Farm which you can find near Ripton Vermont, but there are more to find. Bookmark this page to come back and check for more links…
Mary Ann’s Diner in Derry
After we left the Frost farm, we headed north into Derry for lunch. Lisa and I are drawn to old-style diners. We found Mary Ann’s Diner just right. The fifties and sixties music is played and when we got in there and sat down, in a big comfortable booth, listening to the Beach Boys. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner but check for hours on this website.

I just want to thank you again, my wife and I had the trip of a lifetime in 2016. 18 days on the back roads of New England, and it was information that I learned by studying your website. We visited the Frost home in Sugar Hill after a great breakfast at Polly’s. We took the roads less travelled, and it made all the difference. You are responsible for making our trip so memorable. When friends see our photos and hear our stories, they ask me “how did you know where to go?” I tell them to view and research your website. You are a wealth of information, and you are so gracious to share it with the public. The images you capture fill us with awe and inspire us to return.
Best regards,
Jim and Lisa Seino
Thank you Jim and Lisa, it’s great to hear that I was able to help someone.

Excellent Fall Foliage article on Robert Frost and places where he lived and wrote! I agree that even on a Cloudy day great images can be made- and touring the home or walking the grounds in Derry New Hampshire is time well spent! Thanks for sharing more great locations for those heading to New England for Fall Colors!
