Autumn Reflection Locations
This is the 2nd in a series of autumn locations to find reflections. Read my first article on 4 Locations for 4 Beautiful Fall Color Reflections.
There is nothing like an autumn reflection of fall foliage in a still lake or pond. Today I’m going to take you around to some of the ones I’ve found over the years. Take notes or write these down in your map book (mine are notated in my gazetteers). Every time I drive along a stream or pond I slow down and look for reflections
Where is Little Lake in Tamworth New Hampshire?
Little Lake (I would call it a pond) is connected to Lake Chocorua. Both of which you will find in Tamworth New Hampshire. If you travel up Route 16 you will travel right by this set of “lakes”. There is a wooden bridge over the stream connecting the two bodies of water.
Now, if you are driving north on Route 16 and find you have arrived in North Conway, then you weren’t paying attention and will have to go back south. I think late afternoon is the best time to get a great reflection shot. But dawn on the larger lake (Chocorua) can be breathtaking. If you arrive around 4 PM the sun should be just above the surrounding hills and gives a good chance for a reflection. Just walk across the bridge and you should find a composition that makes you smile.

Where is the Swift River Covered Bridge, Conway New Hampshire
Near Conway New Hampshire, is the Swift River and Saco River Covered Bridges. Under the Swift River in the morning light, you can find fall foliage reflections of the bridge by climbing down the embankment. *note, there are no steps, so please be safe. Just down the river is the Saco River Covered Bridge, both within sight of each other. These are two bridges that are probably the first covered bridges that people find. Mostly because they are really easy.
Get a map book and they should be listed or you can go into many nearby businesses and they have those cartoon maps with all the local attractions. Another reason is that Conway is at one end of the Kancamagus Highway. And lastly, it is a great place to pick up tax-free purchases at the outlet stores.

Where is the Lily Pond, Kancamagus Highway, New Hampshire
The lily pond can be found along the Kancamagus highway, also known as Route 112 between Lincoln New Hampshire (NH) and Conway NH. The “Kanc” is the Grand Dame of scenic rides in New Hampshire. There is a small pull-off for four or five vehicles and early in the day can be better for a reflection. The day I took this image it was overcast and there were low clouds as seen.
Link to a map of the Lilypond on the “Kanc” Or you can watch this video on my Youtube channel as I drove over the Kanc on 20 Sept 2020. (It WAS VERY busy)
This will be an ongoing series of fall foliage reflection articles that will detail where and when to visit the locations. There are literally millions of locations and all you really need is a good map book to locate the ponds, lakes, and rivers and from there it’s up to you.
Where is Mirror Lake in New Hampshire?
There are a couple of Mirror Lakes in New Hampshire. This one is off Route 3 in Thornton. I-93 is only a short distance away but due to the landscape, you can’t see the lake.
You will find the lake access off Route 3. Take Mirror Lake Rd. and follow it until you pass under the highway (I-93). On the right, you will come to Mirror Lake Beach Rd. take it and park in the parking lot. Great in the morning or the late afternoon. LIf you look on this page and there are four images three of them are at dawn and the fourth is late in the afternoon.
Which Echo Lake is on Vermont Route 100
Finding Echo Lake which is on Route 100 is not hard but there are many “Echo Lakes” around New England. This one is just past Ludlow and Okemo Ski Resort. You continue these areas on Route Route 100 and you will pass a turn-off for Route 103 and if you continue on Route 100 you will start to see water on your right and you should slow down. I found a section right on Route 100 where I caught this image.
Now a friend of mine (Butch Lombardi) did a guest post on my website, On “The quest for the iconic fall foliage shot” and if you go to his article you will see that it’s a very different shot.
Here is a secret… Continue going up Route 100 till you see Kingdom Rd and take that around to Scout Camp Rd. and follow this into Camp Plymouth State Park. I think you will find Butch’s image in there at dawn…
So here are a few more of the locations that I have found for autumn reflections. Every body of water has the potential to have great reflections but due to heavy brush or access, maybe you can’t quite get to see the reflections. That happens more times than I can count. Just keep checking your gazetteers and see what you can find.
Happy foliage trails!
