The Nancy House, Pittsfield Maine
Quaint New England in Central Maine
In the middle of October of 2021, we had made plans to stay in Bar Harbor Maine, but hearing that the foliage was not so stellar there, Lisa quickly worked on seeing if we could change plans. She found the Nancy House through Airbnb, and it looked like it was a nice place.
Pittsfield is centrally located in Maine, a 20-minute drive to Bangor, and about 45 minutes from the coastal areas of Mount Desert Island/Acadia. It was, surprisingly, a quaint village with beautiful parks along the Sebasticook River, a main street lined with little shops and restaurants, and easy access to I-95.
We were surprised because we have found that there are not a lot of picturesque towns in central Maine. Many have a very “industrial” feel, or not a lot to the town center, which doesn’t make them very photogenic. We managed to do a little exploring in the surrounding countryside and found little white farmhouses dotting the landscape.
Across the street, is the old train depot which now houses the town’s Historical Society. It wasn’t open when we visited, but provided some nice photo ops.
We stayed in the apartment called The Lodge at the Nancy House. It is one of several small apartments in the house (there are also two rooms), and it was fully equipped with a kitchen with regular appliances.
There was also a washer and dryer available in the bathroom. It had a sitting and dining area, and the bed was extremely comfortable with side tables for both sides of the bed. One of Lisa’s pet peeves is when there is only one side table on one side of the bed and nothing on the other. Do you have similar pet peeves?
The porch entry was very inviting and nicely decorated with flower gardens along the entrance. While there, Nancy’s mother was puttering in the gardens, preparing them for winter.
Although there is an outdoor spa/hot tub, we didn’t use it. We really weren’t all that interested, but also, it was located on the opposite side of the house from the Lodge apartment. Maybe one of the other rooms is located closer to it and would be more convenient for its use.
I have to add that the place was impeccably clean. It was like we were the first guests. Honestly, there are very few places we have stayed where I can say that. Nancy provides some nice touches that don’t come often with Airbnb rentals. There were robes and slippers provided (I assume for if you use the spa tub), fresh muffins (they were more like cupcakes, but not complaining! They were delicious!), and fresh eggs, butter, and coffee for you to make your breakfast.

Many people will say that they can do the same thing for free in Google Maps and this is true. But this is SO MUCH SIMPLER…
I’ve looked at it and find it to be of value to my readers. As a further bonus, if you sign up for their service, you can use this code BTR5QTP and take $5 off the one-year price.

There is a small grocery store up the street for convenient shopping if you need/want more. I can say, because it is a small town, eating-out options are limited downtown, and due to our traveling at the beginning of the week, and not on weekends, we did have to drive to a larger town for dinner. Newport and Waterville have a few options, and then with more options, is Bangor.
We highly recommend Nancy House, especially if you want to be central to provide easy access to different travel options, and would rather have a homey feel instead of staying at a chain hotel in downtown Bangor.

I know your FB page is not suppose to be used for recommendations, but thank you Lisa, for the Eagle Mountain House rec in Jackson, NH. My husband and I stayed there on 10/13-15. By far our favorite place on our two week trip through the six NE states. New England Fall Foliage was invaluable in helping determine our route. A great trip, lots of “roads not taken”, and memories for a lifetime. Thanks for all the help.
And I agree with Lisa. Only one bedside night stand is totally annoying.
