Scenic Locations around Sugar Hill New Hampshire
Sugar Hill New Hampshire is always one of my favorite places to visit. There are many scenic places to set up your camera and photograph picturesque farms, Victorian homes, churches, and of course fall colors.
You can take a look at my “exploring-sugar-hill-NH pdf” to get an idea of my route of travel from Beaver Pond to Sugar Hill. This combined with your own map books/GPS will get you there. Basically, Routes 116 and 18 will bring you onto Route 117. Once on 117, you’re in Sugar Hill.
Saint Matthew’s Chapel
This may be a no-brainer for many of my fans but if you are new here and looking for a pretty scenic location in Sugar Hill New Hampshire, then this is a good place to stop. In June photographers will get the church and the lupines together to create a pleasing composition.
In the fall the Maple trees to the side and the trees behind it will create a pleasing palette of colors.
The Frost Place
Robert Frost lived in many places in the world but New England and more pointedly Vermont seemed to draw him back to it over the years. “The Frost Place” can be found near Sugar Hill New Hampshire off Route 116 and then catch Ridge Road.
The house only has a small marker and has a small dirt parking area. The Frost Family lived here full-time from 1915 to 1920 and today the “Frost Place” is home to guest poet each summer who is awarded a fellowship each summer by Dartmouth College and selects an emerging American poet.
The Sugar Hill Sampler
The 200-year-old barn was a craft shop and museum up until 2018 when the owner died. in 2021 a new couple bought it with an eye for restoring it.
Right now its end purpose is up in the air and whether it becomes more than a red barn remains to be seen.
The Meeting House
The Sugar Hill Meetinghouse is on Route 117 and just across the road from the Sugar Hill Historical Museum.
The building sits back from the road and there are five or so large maples in front of the building.
Of Course, Polly’s Pancake Parlor
Last but never least is Polly’s. No visit to Sugar Hill would ever be complete without a stop for a bite to eat at Polly’s Pancake Parlor.
If you are traveling along Route 18, you will turn onto Route 117. You will find Polly’s about 1.37 miles up Route 117. Plenty of parking and don’t worry if you don’t feel like some pancakes, they have a full menu with lots of delectable meals to choose from. If you are planning to drop in between late Sept to mid-October, please give them a call (+16038235575) and make a reservation. Yes… They get that busy at times.
Have a great fall foliage day!

Hi Jeff, We want to thank you for introducing us to Polly’s Pancake Parlor. It has been a scheduled stop on every fall trip to New Hampshire..It certainly has been a delightful stop on our leaf peeping trips and hopefully we can stop there again next year. It is truely a great place to eat..
Again THANKS,
Hoss
I lost and found a couple of places in Vermont. We lost the Swiss Farm Inn which is on Route 100 but they no longer serve breakfast 🙁
but Lisa and I found the Vermont Sugar and Vermont spice restaurant in Mendon VT http://vtsugarandspice.com/
This is a new one more southerly in VT near Killington. It’s also well worth a stop!

Thanks, Jeff, I’ve always associated Sugar Hill with lupine season, nice to see there’s another option! I hope the Red Barn survives. That was a nice place.
There is lots more but you just have to drive some of the back roads to find them…
