In search of an old Covered Bridge in Waitsfield VT.
One such covered bridge can be found in the town of Waitsfield Vermont, located in the north-central part of the state (South of Waterbury Vt). This bridge is known by several names. The most popular is the Village Covered Bridge but you will also see the Great Eddy or Big Eddy covered bridge as well. It is a historic structure that was built in 1833, to span the Mad River, and it remains a popular tourist attraction to this day.

Vermont is a state known for its beautiful covered bridges, which are iconic symbols of the state’s history and cultural heritage. The Waitsfield Covered Bridge is a single-span, Town lattice truss bridge, which means that it is supported by a series of interlocking timbers that form a lattice-like pattern. It is one of the oldest covered bridges in Vermont and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
locating the Village covered bridge
To locate the Waitsfield Covered Bridge, travelers can take Route 100 through Waitsfield and turn onto Bridge St. The bridge is located on this road and is easily accessible to pedestrians and vehicles. There is a small parking area nearby just south of Bridge Street, where visitors can park and walk to the bridge. You will see a multi-tiered sign with 4-5 businesses listed. Visitors can walk across the bridge and enjoy the scenic views of the Mad River and the surrounding countryside.
