Lisa and I stayed at the Wildflower Inn because we had driven by it several times while exploring Burke and Darling Hill Rd. In 2020 they were closed and we parked there while exploring Heaven’s Bench which is on a hill above the BnB. Read about exploring beautiful Burke Vermont here. And the Wildflower Inn makes a good hub to explore from, as detailed here.
The Wildflower Inn in Burke, Vermont is a cozy and affordable destination for travelers looking to experience the beauty of New England. It is located in the heart of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. The Inn is just a short drive from some of the region’s most popular attractions. The panoramic views of the surrounding landscape from above the Inn are the stuff postcards are created for.
The Wildflower Inn and Views
Getting to the Wildflower Inn is easy, no matter how you choose to travel. The inn is located just off Route 5 (take 116 to Darling Hill Rd), which runs through the heart of Vermont and is easily accessible by car. If you’re flying into the area, the Burlington International Airport is just a 2-hour drive away and offers regular flights to and from major cities across the country.
When Lisa and I stayed there, it was 13 October so the fall colors were definitely on the way out. I would say 1-10 October would (depending on the year) be much better for the fall colors.
Our Room at the Wildflower Inn
Once you arrive at the Wildflower Inn, you’ll find a variety of activities and attractions to keep you entertained during your stay. The inn is located just across the road from Heaven’s Bench, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys (seen up above).
Activities
You can also explore the Burke Mountain Ski Area, which is just a short drive from the inn and offers a range of winter sports activities, including skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. During the summer, you can enjoy hiking and mountain biking. During the short fall season, you can add leaf-peeping to the list. (1-10 October)
Kingdom Trails shares their parking lot so if you want to rent a bike and explore the rolling dirt roads or the wooded trails which offer over 100 miles of trails for hiking, and mountain biking, It can’t get more convenient. After exploring during the day we returned to the Inn and had freshly made Pizza in the Pub. The next morning we walked over the the main building to sample the well-laid-out breakfast.
Moose Watching
Yes, there is a chance to spot a moose on Darling Hill Rd. You just need to keep a wary eye for them. During daylight hours they are hard to miss. But they tend to come out at dusk and before dawn and being able to spot a large brown animal when it’s pitch black, you get my point…
Overall, the Wildflower Inn is a great choice for travelers looking for a cozy and affordable place to stay while exploring the beauty of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. With its convenient location, a wide range of activities and attractions, and affordable prices, the Wildflower Inn is sure to be a hit with travelers of all types.
