Original General Store

On the other side of the street is the Original General Store. You will find this on Route 100 in Pittsfield Vermont.

This is one of those general stores that is surviving by branching out into other areas. They don’t just offer sandwiches but they also cater and on Saturday nights, they will provide sit-down meals (get on their email list to know when this starts again). They have multiple tables to sit at and you can order a sandwich off their menu or get one of their specialty beers.

They have fewer “general store” goods than some places we visit and tend to have more “upscale” tourist items for sale. But you can simply stop in and get a cup of coffee, use the bathrooms, and continue your trip.

We stayed overnight at the Swiss Farm Inn (2 years back And they now only rent the place out) just down the road and I believe the store across the street from the “Original” General Store belongs to the Inn. So to me, the folks are learning to offer more things to get the tourist dollars as they come through Vermont.
