These are what I consider to be the best articles to start your journey. These are critical for first-timers and seasoned foliage seekers as well.

Beard Brook stone bridge
Beard Brook stone bridge with a double arch. This may be billed as a double arch bridge but do to the undergrowth of brush and the rocks and general layout it’s very tough to get a shot of both at the same time. But it does make a great single arch shot with all the moss-covered rocks leading your eye up to the bridge. I went to the other side to photograph this arch (but this is the best side.)

Once you are done with these, then you can check my pages on planning and then research by states or those subjects that interest you the most.

Beginning your foliage journey can be a wonderful and exciting experience, especially if you live in a part of the world that experiences the stunning colors of fall. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

  1. Know when to go: The best time to see fall foliage will vary depending on your location. Research the average peak time for fall foliage in your area so you can plan your trip accordingly. Generally, the fall foliage season lasts from late September to mid-November.
  2. Choose your destination: There are many beautiful places to see fall foliage in the US, so research and choose the most appealing destination. Some popular options include New England, the Great Smoky Mountains, and the Rocky Mountains. (When equals where here is an article on this subject)
  3. Plan your route: Once you’ve chosen your destination, plan your route in advance. This will help you make the most of your trip and ensure that you don’t miss any of the best spots.
  4. Consider the weather: Keep an eye on the weather forecast in the days leading up to your trip. Rain and wind can cause leaves to fall off the trees, so you’ll want to watch driving on wet leaves during or immediately after a storm.
  5. Bring the right gear: Be sure to pack warm clothing, comfortable shoes, and a camera to capture the beautiful scenery. It’s also a good idea to bring a map or GPS device, as some foliage destinations can be off the beaten path.
  6. Enjoy the experience: Fall foliage season is a magical time, so be sure to take it all in and enjoy the experience. Take a scenic drive, go for a hike, or simply sit and take in the beautiful colors around you.

Beginning your foliage journey is a great way to experience the beauty of fall and create lasting memories. With a little planning and preparation, you’re sure to have a wonderful time exploring the stunning colors of the season.
