The Turning of the Seasons
The seasons are turning here in here in New England. The summer is long gone or it’s only a few months away (if you are the glass is half full sort). My favorite season witch is the fall foliage season is also gone but it’s still fresh in my mind. even though it has faded from view for most of you and apple picking along with Pumpkin picking is a cherished memory these days.
I know you all have your favorite season and based on the comments in my spring and summer posts about Autumn, most of you cherish summer the most. (don’t worry, I’m still going to post my autumn images and thoughts year-round.
What’s not to love about summer though? Days at the beach, backyard BBQs, running through sprinklers, Ok maybe I don’t run through sprinklers much anymore but I can still be seen jumping in a puddle just for the joy of watching the water go flying.
And after a good long winter when spring first arrives, we all start to breathe easier when the temperatures climb into the 40s and 50s. And who doesn’t roll the car windows down, turn up the tunes and maybe take a more scenic route to work, just to enjoy a sunny morning or afternoon when we first hit the 60s.
I enjoy all of these times and so many more. As I get older I don’t mind putting on a heavier coat and go out in the snow. I go for a walk on Salem Common on a snowy evening and watch parents pull a sled or toboggan of kids. I remember back when it was my dad pulling me and my sister on a snowy hill at the school.
So you see, to me, the seasons are turning and if we are lucky they will continue to do so. What makes us even luckier is if we make new memories each and every season. Take each one and make the best of it. Even if it’s to just make a fire in the fireplace and watch the snow falling from inside.
For those who are in the doldrums and missing their favorite season, I hope it makes today a bit more bearable.
Nice post. We can have a favorite season, yet still enjoy all the seasons.
I enjoy them all for one reason or another. I don’t want to lose any of them.
Beautiful post, Jeff. Thanks for sharing your lovely thoughts!
It is February and I am already thinking about October. Always enjoy your posts.
