Exploring Weston Vermont
Greetings my fellow Foliage seekers, depending on how you gauge Springs’ arrival, either we passed it on March 1st or it arrives next Sunday the 20th but either way, it’s arriving.
I passed a few neighbors this morning and one of them asked if I was Jeff Folger. I’m still not used to being recognized and admitted I was. He said he saw me on CBS Sunday Morning and thought it was cool when he recognized where we left from (our condo). He said that this is not my “busy” time of the year, I agreed but in retrospect, I’m very busy from December to August (my downtime) because I’m writing multiple articles on the previous year/years.
Today I’m going to send you to Weston Vermont. You may say that one Vermont town is pretty similar to any other so why Weston? There are a few towns, like Stowe, Grafton, and Weston that I consider to be destination towns. A destination town usually has so much going on that it can entertain you for a day straight.
What will you find while exploring Weston Vermont
Weston is a small town with around 600 people living there. It’s a quaint little town that gives you a veritable looking glass back to 1799, the year the town was incorporated. There are several inns and B&Bs to stay at while you explore the area around Weston.
To give you an idea of your need to visit there, the entire village… I’ll say that again, The entire village of Weston is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
I hate to say this but I can’t say that I have fully explored Weston. It would take us a full day and maybe two to do it well. Things like the Maple Grove cemetery, Several antique stores, The playhouse, the Weston Village Store, and the Christmas Shop. To be honest, when we stopped there last October 11th, the Village Store and Christmas Shop were packed and our unease about Covid stopped us from visiting during this trip.

Vermont Country Store
Right on the other side of the street from the Weston Village Store (the street happens to be Route 100) is the Vermont Country Store. This is a destination in itself and you should plan at least a solid hour in here alone.
I’ve been in their Rockingham store in Bellows Falls Vermont so we didn’t go in this day but from Vermont-made created items to many items from around the country, you will regret it if you don’t visit this store.
Vermont Mill Museum
The Vermont Mill Museum was not open when were there but we just wandered around the outside of the buildings which will provide a trove of photographic possibilities.
I hope to hit it earlier in the day and maybe catch it open for a tour. You can walk around freely and explore the equipment on the front porch which gives you an idea of the machines of early Americana to be found here.
The Green Mountains above Weston
Weston is just at the feet of the Green Mountains and Mount Tabor. The hills rise high above the town of Weston and there are many roads that go up into the hills above Weston to explore. We’ve taken Landgove Road to Danby Mountain Tabor Road and come down the other side of the Green Mountains to Route 7.
There are lots of dirt roads to explore by driving up into the Green Mountain National Forest.
Zoom in on this map to explore further. but you can spend a pleasant afternoon finding your way over to the western side of the Green Mountains and Route 7, but that is another whole story to tell there…

We have been to The Vermont Country Store many times and have always enjoyed our stops . Hopefully, we can spend more time in Weston and can visit other places on our next visit..Thanks for your insite about Weston and for just getting us thinking about fall 2022…

If I remember correctly the Monks of the Weston Priory have a monastery and small chapel where they have short prayer services with music several times per day. Also a small fift shop where they sell their CDs. They are located a little north and west of town.
Thanks Edward, I saw them in the map but didn’t visit. I try to give folks a reason to go there and then do their exploring from there… Was the chapel and grounds photogenic in the fall?
As I remember. the grounds were meticulously maintained. There was some color, but no broad view of the hills. I have pictures…somewhere. If I can find them I’ll send a couple.
